ISHEID 2018

Dear Friends, dear Colleagues,We are pleased to announce that the next International Symposium on HIV and Emerging Infectious Diseases ISHEID 2018 is scheduled on May 16-18, 2018 in Marseille, France.

The understanding of HIV and hepatitis infections continues to grow rapidly, especially regarding our ability to develop novel prevention and therapeutic strategies that will lead to the reduction of new infections. The burden of non-communicable diseases in HIV infected subjects implicates a multidisciplinary approach of the infection and the need of close interactions with specialists from other disciplines.

ISHEID 2018 will dedicate a privileged place to state-of-the art presentations, as well as to debates among experienced and younger investigators regarding new data and their implications.

This event will have invited lectures by European and International leaders, many oral abstract and poster presentations, and educational workshops, as well as overviews of comorbidities by specialists of each field.

It will be unique in its approach, as it will engage basic scientists and clinicians from the HIV, hepatitis and emerging infectious diseases fields, as well as leading scientists involved in comorbidities.

We look forward to seeing you in May 2018.

International AIDS Society statement on the passing of Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan

    posted on

The International AIDS Society mourns the passing of Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan and honours his life of service and dedication to an open society and to the fight against AIDS.

Amsterdam, the city that Mayor van der Laan led for seven years, occupies a critical role in the history of the global fight against AIDS. It was among the first cities in the world to support needle exchange, which helped address a growing epidemic among people who inject drugs.

In keeping with the city’s commitment to an evidence-based response to the epidemic, Amsterdam has long been a national and global centre of HIV-related research, including an ongoing trial comparing daily and intermittent use of pre-exposure antiretroviral prophylaxis. In 2018, Amsterdam will host the 22nd International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2018).

“To stop the urban HIV epidemic, inclusivity is essential,” Mayor van der Laan said. His leadership vividly reflected this commitment to an open, transparent and participatory fight against HIV. Civil society and community groups play pivotal roles in the city’s response to the epidemic. Mayor van der Laan is globally renowned for his visible and unflagging commitment to the rights of LGBT people and to the broader human rights agenda.

Under Mayor van der Laan, Amsterdam embarked on a historic effort to end its HIV epidemic. As of 2015, 94% of all people living with HIV in Amsterdam knew their HIV status and 79% of all people living with HIV achieved viral suppression. The number of new HIV diagnoses in Amsterdam has fallen by half in only five years.

“Mayor van der Laan’s passion to address the needs of those left behind in the fight against AIDS was pivotal to our decision to host AIDS 2018 in Amsterdam,” said International AIDS Society President Linda-Gail Bekker. “We will miss him greatly and honour his commitment when we all come together next July.”

“With the passing of Mayor van der Laan, we lose a tireless people’s champion. His empathy and unprecedented ability to connect have been hugely important for the city’s HIV response,”

said Peter Reiss, Local Co-chair of AIDS 2018. “We are certain that the example of his leadership and the principles he so courageously championed will live on – not only in Amsterdam, but also around the world.”

COACHiv Bagno a Ripoli (FI), 19 settembre 2018

    • Comunicare post-test in caso negativo

  • HIV Drug Therapy Glasgow 2018 Conference - 28 to 31 October 2018

    HIV Drug Therapy Glasgow 2018 Conference - 28 to 31 October 2018

    HIV Drug Therapy-

The programme is of interest to clinical investigators from across the globe to review current research and discuss its implications for HIV management strategies.

Although there has been steady progress in HIV drug treatment, significant challenges still remain, including persistence of elevated risk of non-AIDS morbidity, with potential for HIV and/or antiretroviral therapy (ART) as causes, paediatric and adolescent care, models of care for the ageing population, and treatment issues throughout less well-resourced parts of Europe and the rest of the world.

The Congress is also moving into areas beyond treatment, such as prevention, with time in the programme focussed on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and issues across Europe and beyond.

The important role of people living with HIV in treatment decisions and self-management continues to feature, and we look forward to a number of perspectives in the programme from the community.

The programme maintains the plenary session presentation format. In addition to plenary presentations, the programme will include Keynote Lectures, the Lock Lecture, Industry Sessions and presentations based on abstracts submitted.

The congress welcomes abstract submissions, and whilst only a small number can be accepted for oral presentation, we anticipate a sizeable display of Scientific Posters in the Congress Exhibition Hall throughout the Congress.
